We are in the process of performing our monthly backup. Customers using a monitoring service may notice a very small drop in performance of around 2 millseconds whilst the back up is in progress. This is because our network is transferring data to an off network location for additional security - our nightly backups are done to a server on our network which does not cause any performance issues. Some databases may be offline for up to 1 minute 30 seconds whilst the off site backup is performed. I won't be blogging these events in future but wanted it on the record that our monthly off site backups can cause a very slight performance hit....
